Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord. (Ps 122:1)
“Hi, God!”
I get that a lot.
It comes from very young children who are coming to church with their parents.
Why would they say that to me?
I can only think it is because their parents are telling them that they are going to God’s house and when they see me in the foyer in my vestments, I must be God in their eyes.
When we go to church, we are going to God’s house. We go to visit our God, to ask for His peace, to request His help, and to abide in His presence.
The psalmist takes up the triumphal shout of the Israelites: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord!
Whenever we come to church, we should feel that same joy bubbling up in our hearts.
More so, we should also remember that our souls are temples of the Spirit. We are, in a real way, God’s House. Throughout this Advent season, we are encouraged to make sure that our houses are cleaned and prepped and ready for the coming of the Lord.
FAITH ACTION: If possible, go the “house of the Lord” today. Visit a church and spend some time with God. Additionally, spend some time in quiet prayer in your own home and invite the Lord into your house.
