Why Daily?
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing — that’s why we recommend it daily.” ~ Zig Ziglar
I have had a blog for a number of years now. I made a promise, when I first began, to write something in it every single day and, except for a hospitalization or two, made good on that promise. What I have written might not be stellar, it might just be a shared video or cartoon. However, it is something. Each day. Every day.
I made that promise to myself so that I would develop the discipline to write something daily. It has often been the source of surprises for those who have followed it. After a day or several days of a lot of nothing, I would wax poetic or share the very depths of feelings because of something that had happened. Those who read the blog have a chance to get to know me better. As the byline states, “You may not always agree with what I have to say; but, at least you will know what I am thinking.”
Several years ago — actually Ash Wednesday of 2012 — I began these Daily Reflections. They are written to help you develop the discipline to reflect each day. I do not think that the material is especially profound. But it is something for you to ponder. And, if I can get you to read these selections on a regular basis, I will have accomplished what I set out to do.
We can promise ourselves that we will do something; but, without the actual doing, the promise means nothing. Daily Reflections are just that: a brief reflection for the day. That is one of the reasons why I try not to write them too far ahead. There are many times I cite something that is very current. Reflecting upon current events helps us to put our lives in perspective.
There is nothing wrong with contemplating — daily — what God has done for us and asking ourselves where God is leading us. If we do not ask the question, we might become misled by the world instead. Stay focused.
