Celebrating Our Community

30 Jan

“What I try to tell young people is that if you come together with a mission, and its grounded with love and a sense of community, you can make the impossible possible.”  ~ John Lewis

Vocation, Family, Student.  These three have been celebrated thus far this week as we commemorate Catholic Schools Week.  Today, we remember another group of people.  Thus, we celebrate our Community Heroes, those who protect us and all those who make our community a great place to work, live and go to school.

The students and their families have worked diligently to provide a means to thank our Community Heroes.  Cookies, desserts, and snack trays will be delivered throughout our community to say thanks.

I believe that the need to teach thanksgiving is very important.  We live in a world filled with an entitled philosophy.  If people think that they are entitled to everything, they don’t feel there is any need to thank anyone for what they have received.

Yet, if we are not thanked, we feel as if we are not appreciated or, even, noticed.

The people we thank this week are community heroes indeed.  From police and paramedics to bus drivers and others who serve our students, our desire to render thanks is so that they know how much we value and appreciate them.

Don’t ever be afraid to say “thank you”.

FAITH ACTION:  Don’t make it artificial, but, whenever a moment comes up to do so today, let people know that you appreciate what they have done for you.
