Yep. The Parents.

29 Oct

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Honor your father and mother.
This is the first commandment with a promise,
that it may go well with you
and that you may have a long life on earth.  (Eph 6:1-3)

Parents.

Kids often act as if they did not have them.

Children often tell their parents that they will not listen to them.

We often think that our parents are the most unintelligent people on earth.

And yet, our parents continue to love us, to support us, to nurture us.

We are constantly reminded how important it is to obey our parents.  There is a very good reason for that.  Generally, our parents have our best interest in mind and they have been charged by God to watch over us, to care for us, and to guide us here on earth.

The job of a parent can be relatively thankless but the rewards are vast.  A parent often puffs up with pride when seeing a son or daughter recognized for a major achievement.  Parents are rewarded when a son or daughter lets the parents know how important they were in his or her life.  A parent feels special when the tables are turned and the parent is cared for by the child.

The emphasis on “parent” is also important because we call God our Father.  As such, we need to learn to be obedient children.  In doing so, we will be rewarded abundantly by our loving Father.

FAITH ACTION:  Do something good for your parent(s) today.  If they are deceased, remember them fondly in prayer, asking God to bless them.
