Let what you heard from the beginning remain in you.
If what you heard from the beginning remains in you,
then you will remain in the Son and in the Father.
And this is the promise that he made us: eternal life. (1 Jn 2:24-25)
This is the beginning, my friends — the beginning of a new year is still underway.
At the beginning of our year, we need to do a lot of remembering and learning.
We need to remember what we have gone through last year and learn from our mistakes as well as rejoice in our victories. We have to draw comfort from our journey with the Lord so that we can continue on.
Let what you heard and what you experienced remain with you so that the decisions that you make this day and each day through the new year may be wise ones that lead you closer to the kingdom.
Make no mistake about it: we can draw closer or we can drift away. Drifting away is so easy to do. It only takes a moment to cast our sight elsewhere. The moment that we do so, we can lose sight of the narrow path.
But, if we remember and hold firm, the Lord will remain with us.
We need nothing more than that.
All the power and glory in the world will get us nowhere in the long run. However, if we remain with the Lord and the Lord remains with us, we will get to eternity with Him.
Now that is something to celebrate!
