In the way of your decrees I rejoice,
as much as in all riches.
Yes, your decrees are my delight;
they are my counselors.
The law of your mouth is to me more precious
than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
How sweet to my palate are your promises,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are. (Ps 119:14,24,72,103,111)
How many people are in turkey comas today or were yesterday?
You know the feeling.
Eat and eat and eat until you cannot move anymore. Give yourself about a half hour and then plunge dessert down the throat as well only to turn around and do it all again in two or three hours.
The day after Thanksgiving is often more of the same. Turkey sandwiches or other variety of leftovers are partaken of all over again.
Yet, how many people go without during the holiday — as well as every day?
We need to be more mindful of the poor and the needy around us.
Our attitude of thanksgiving should extend to serving the needs of the poor.
Yesterday may have been a day of feasting for you.
Let today become a day of awareness.
FAITH ACTION: Make a list of the many things that you can do this holiday season to serve the needy: volunteer at a soup kitchen, a warming shelter, an overnight shelter, et cetera. Make a resolution to do at least one of the things on your list.
