Trust

1 Jul

One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward.
Seeing him he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, saying,
“My daughter is at the point of death.
Please, come lay your hands on her
that she may get well and live.”
He went off with him,
and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him.

There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years.
She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors
and had spent all that she had.
Yet she was not helped but only grew worse.
She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd
and touched his cloak.
She said, “If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.”  (Mk 5:22-28)

Trust.

That is the theme of the Gospel today — and has been for the past several days.

Jairus trusted that Jesus could heal his daughter and begged the Lord to come to his home.

The woman with the hemorrhages trusted that Jesus could heal her just by touching His cloak.

Both placed their complete trust in the Lord.

Even when Jairus heard that his daughter had died and that Jesus should no longer make His way to the home, Jesus insisted that everything would be all right.  Jairus was challenged to trust that, indeed, all would work out.

And, in both cases, all did work out.  The woman was cured.  Jairus’ daughter was raised from the dead.

God is a loving God and is so solicitous of us in our needs.

All He asks is that we trust Him.

FAITH ACTION:  Has there been something you have been afraid to ask the Lord to do or something that you have given up on?  Have you quit trusting the Lord?  Hand your doubt to Him in prayer, ask confidently, and know that He hears you.
