Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth.
The former heaven and the former earth had passed away,
and the sea was no more.
I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Rv 21:1-2)
“The end” is soon upon us. Today is the second to last day of the liturgical year. Our new year begins with the Vigil Mass Saturday evening of the First Sunday of Advent.
That is why our readings for the past two weeks have been focusing on the end times. We know that they are a reality, they will come. For our part, we need to be ready for them.
The end of time is going to be more dire for many people than they imagine. We have sort of deluded ourselves into thinking everything will be all right because we will be given a second chance, and a third chance, and a fourth chance, and a…
Part of the reason we think that is because, as we end each liturgical year, we know a new one awaits. As we come to the end of a calendar year, we know a new one is around the corner.
However, when we come to “the end” of our time here on earth, there is no second chance. We need to be found prepared.
Yesterday was a good opportunity to prepare. Learning to be thankful goes a long way in keeping us focused on what lies ahead.
Stay focused. Be prepared. The Day of the Lord is coming.
FAITH ACTION: Ask God to show you what you need to do to be prepared for the moment that He calls you home.
