And now, bless the God of all,
who has done wondrous things on earth;
Who fosters people’s growth from their mother’s womb,
and fashions them according to his will!
May he grant you joy of heart
and may peace abide among you;
May his goodness toward us endure in Israel
to deliver us in our days. (Sir 50:22-24)
Today is a national day of Thanksgiving.
I have always been unsettled about that.
After all, why set aside one day to be thankful when we should be thankful every day, every minute, every second?
Which is precisely what we should be.
Yet we often go on our own way, not appreciative of all that God does for us because we so often claim to have done things on our own.
But, it is God who has done the wondrous things on this earth, who fashioned us in His image and likeness, and who blesses us each day of our lives.
In all that you do today, give Him thanks. And thank Him tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after. And the … well, you get my drift.
FAITH ACTION: Try to go to church today to give thanks to God for all that He has done for you. And, while among your family and friends today, do not forget to tell them that you are grateful for the many things they do for you.
