So they said, “What is this ‘little while’ of which he speaks?
We do not know what he means.”
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them,
“Are you discussing with one another what I said,
‘A little while and you will not see me,
and again a little while and you will see me’?” (Jn 16:18-19)
We are relatively clueless. We have proven that to the Lord over and over again throughout the ages.
God says so much to us and so often our response is “We do not know what he means.”
It is not that we want to be obtuse or argumentative. It truly is that we are clueless.
Thankfully, Jesus was used to it.
His first clueless person appeared to be Thomas. Thomas, the great doubter, just could not follow the Lord when He told them that He was going to be leaving them. Jesus indicated that they should not be upset because they knew where He was going. Thomas replied, “We do not know where you are going, how can we know the way?”
There is so much about Jesus that we do not understand.
What we do know, however, is that Jesus meets us exactly where we stand. He does not expect miracles from us, just an open mind and heart. As long as we are willing to be receptive to Him, He will show us what we need in order to follow Him and in order to dwell with Him forever.
Are you a little clueless?
Do not be afraid to admit it. He already knows!
FAITH ACTION: Ask the Lord to show you, today, what it is He wants of you. Be ready for His response.
