“Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” (Jn 16:23b)
Just don’t ask for stupid stuff!
There are many people out there who say that Jesus is a liar. After all, didn’t He say, “Whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you”?
Yes. Jesus did say that.
But, Jesus also meant to ask with a good heart, with a firm purpose, and for a good reason.
Jesus did not mean that God was going to become the “gimme” God. You know: Gimme this and gimme that. And if God doesn’t deliver, He’s a liar.
That is not the kind of God we have.
We do not have a gimme God.
We have a God who loves and who loves perfectly. He will give all things to the people who are sincere and who are doing their best to love perfectly and who want to do His will.
That is the whole key right there: to want to do the will of God rather than to want God to bend to our will.
What have you asked of God lately for the sake of His name rather than your own gain?
FAITH ACTION: As you pray today, be conscious of what you request and why you request it. Ask the Lord to help you to accept His will for you.
