Reach

“The desire to reach for the stars is Ambitious.  The desire to reach hearts is Wise.”  ~ Rick Sutter

We all know that life has a delicate balance.  As we reflect upon that balance, however, there are times that we use it as a crutch, as a way to keep ourselves from reaching as high as we otherwise could.  We tell ourselves that some things are just unattainable and, therefore, we fail to attempt them.

If everyone let the impossible stop them, we would never fly in airplanes, or drive in cars, or turn on electrical appliances.  If everyone let the impossible stop them, we would never have peace among nations.  If everyone let the impossible stop them, we would have absolutely nothing to look forward to attaining.

The impossible should not limit us.  It should help us to set our goals.  I really like people who live by the adage, “Everything is possible.  The impossible just takes a little longer.”

Why would anyone ever begin a prayer life if they did not think that a relationship with an all-powerful, all-knowing, limitless God could be possible?  Yet, it is.  We can have a relationship with God.  All we have to do is believe in the impossible.

When we reach for things, though, we need to make sure that they are the right things.  We can all grab for the impossible:  fame, fortune, prestige, popularity.  We can even achieve it.  But, in the process, we could lose our very selves and, even more, our very souls.  Or, we could grab for the impossible: servant, lover, forgiver, healer.  In learning to embody those virtues of God, we not only change the lives of those around us for the better, we change ourselves.

Who said it was impossible to become more like God?  Reach for the impossible.  Reach for the heart.  Change the lives of those around you — and yourself — for the better and know more completely the love of God.

FAITH ACTION:  Evaluate your spiritual goals.  Are you reaching high enough?
