Embrace God’s Will And God’s Law

“How many observe Christ’s birthday! How few, His precepts!”  ~ Benjamin Franklin

As I mentioned yesterday, we are preparing for the end of the Christmas season and the beginning of Ordinary Time. We need to reflect upon how we will live our lives throughout the year. That exercise was done by many at the end of last year. When we prepare to begin a New Year, we often make resolutions.

To live as faithfully as possible through 2024, we might want to consider Franklin’s admonition. Many people celebrate Christmas but they fail to live Christmas. We should do more than observe Christ’s birthday. We should also embrace and observe His precepts, His laws.

This might be a good time to review your New Year’s resolutions. Have you made any resolve to be a more faithful follower of Christ this year? Have you resolved to serve those in need? Have you resolved to pray more regularly? Have you considered giving of your time, talent, and treasure to your church community? These are all ways that we embrace Christ deeply.

If your Christmas season has been a good one, give thanks to God. If you know someone whose Christmas was bleak, reach out to the person. Be Christ for another. That is how we live Christmas for ourselves, for others, and for God.

FAITH ACTION:  What precepts/laws/commandments have you not upheld in your daily life? You might want to consider going to confession this day to set yourself in the right direction this year.
