My Kind Of Conspiracy

2 Jan

“Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.”  ~ Hamilton Wright Mabie

Conspiracy theories abound. You don’t have to look hard to be able to hear one. Many times, we find ourselves embroiled in them. We almost always think of conspiracies as something bad or wrong. Mabie introduces us to a delightful conspiracy today: a conspiracy of love. Wouldn’t that be a great conspiracy to join?

We are generally afraid to love. I think that is because we don’t really know what love is. Throughout our lives, we have had too many bad examples of love. We often think that love is conditional, that it has strings attached, and that it is time-limited. Love, of course, is none of that.

Love is unconditional. Love would never attach strings to anything. Love is eternal. The most perfect example of Love is God Himself. He loves us unconditionally. He loves us no matter where we are or what we do. His love will never force us to do anything. Instead, it invites us. His love, finally, will never fail or end.

We are just beginning a new year. On Sunday, we reminded ourselves to focus on what matters most. All the things that matter most thrive the best when we are generous with our love. Don’t tie strings to your love. Love openly, boldly, and generously. Invite others into that same conspiracy and see how it can change at least your part of the world.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to help you love as He loves you.
