Don’t Forget How You Got There

16 May

“God lets you be successful because he trusts you that you will do the right thing with it. Now, does he get disappointed often? All the time, because people get there and they forget how they got it.”  ~ Steve Harvey

This is one of the things that reflects the biggest flaw in our human nature:  we think that we’ve done it all on our own and we fail to give credit — and gratitude — to those who are truly the causes of many of our successes.  This happens in school situations, it happens in work situations, and it happens in our relationship with God.  We are prone to grab the credit even when credit isn’t due.

Harvey claims that in today’s quote.  He states that God allows our successes because He trusts us to do the right thing but He ends up disappointed many times.  Why?  Well, because we fail to do the right thing.

Sometimes, the right thing might be to help someone else but we, instead, do everything for ourselves and no one else.  Sometimes, the right thing is to be thankful to someone — including God — for the generous assistance we have be given.  Sometimes, the right thing would be a heaping helping of humility instead of a copious amount of pride.

Hey, let’s make this simple:  God loves us.  He gifts us.  He wants us to be happy with what we have been given.  But He wants us to share our blessings with others and to be grateful for what we have received.

If we do that, we will never disappoint God.  If we fail to do that, we have a lot of work to do to make things right between ourselves, others, and God.  Do what’s right today.  Be thankful for all that you have received.  Don’t disappoint God.

FAITH ACTION:  Don’t forget that it was God who got you to where you are today.  Thank Him for His great love to you.
