As A Result Of Gratitude

10 May

“Everything we do should be a result of our gratitude for what God has done for us.”  ~ Lauryn Hill

Gloomy Guses.  Nervous Nellies.  Jumpy Jasons.  Doubting Daniels.  These are descriptions of people whom we all probably know.  There are many others out there as well.  And there’s a real problem with these kinds of people.  When we’re around them, we tend to become gloomy, nervous, jumpy, or doubtful as well.  Their influence just surrounds others and often overwhelms others.

When we become overwhelmed with the world, we tend to pick up a negative outlook.  That outlook can easily be transferred to family, friends, and coworkers around us.  It’s that communicable.  That’s the bad news.  The good news is that the opposite is true as well.  Good feelings, thankfulness, and happiness can all be transmitted to others.

When we are down, we become a downer to and for others.  When we are happy, we bring happiness into other people’s lives.  And when we act out of gratitude, we invite others to be grateful as well.  I can’t begin to tell you the number of times the good Sisters told us in grade school to “have an attitude of gratitude.”  We would go around the playground mocking them, “attitude of gratitude, attitude of gratitude, attitude of gratitude…”  However, the more we repeated the phrase, the more it sunk in.

Yes.  Having an attitude of gratitude goes a long way in keeping up happy and positive and setting us as good examples for others.  God has done so much for us and He deserves nothing less that gratitude from us by word and by the way we live our lives.  Have an attitude of gratitude today and you will not only make God smile, you will also make those old nuns proud of you.

FAITH ACTION:  Act out of gratitude today so as to inspire others to do the same.
