“Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.” ~ Plato
They say that talk is cheap. It can also be superfluous. Talk is not always what is needed in every situation. Sometimes plain old simple presence is enough. When a baby is whimpering, a cuddle might be what is in order. When a friend is sad, sometimes they just want us to be with them. It is often the nervous and/or insecure person who tries to fill the void of silence with inane chatter. All that does, though, is add to one’s anxiety.
We don’t always have to say something. Sometimes, we just need to be. This lesson needs to be learned when it comes to our relationship with God and our prayer life. Too often, we think of prayer as using words. We can fill the time with mindless chatter because we are anxious or nervous around the Lord.
We forget that it is the Lord who created us in His image and likeness. It is the Lord who knows us through and through. It is the Lord who knows what we already need. We do not have to use words with Him. He simply wants our presence.
FAITH ACTION: Spend some time in silent prayer today so that the Lord can talk to you.
