Happy Feast Day!

2 Oct

The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?”
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.
See that you do not despise one of these little ones,
for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”  (Mt 18:1-5,10)

God gives us so much.  He has given us life.  He has given us His love.  He has given us His Son, who gave of His very own life for us on the cross.  As if this were not enough, He has fashioned a Guardian Angel for each and every one of us.

Today, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Guardian Angels.

For us, in the Diocese of Gary, this day becomes even more important since it is the feast of the Patrons of the Diocese of Gary.  When the diocese was first created, Bishop Andrew G. Grutka, D.D. put us under the patronage of the Holy Angels.

So we celebrate today.

We celebrate God’s love.  We celebrate God’s protection.  And we celebrate our many years together as a people of God in this diocese.

May God continue to guide us and protect us and may He always have His angels keep watch over us!

FAITH ACTION:  Pray the prayer to your Guardian Angel today.

Angel of God, my Guardian Dear
To whom God’s love commits me here.
Ever this day be at my side
To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen
