“I shall come to ask… that on the First Saturday of every month,
Communions of reparation be made in atonement for the sins of the world.”
The Blessed Virgin Mary spoke these words to Lucia, one of the visionaries of Fatima.
Mary told Lucia that she would “promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me, on the First Saturday of five successive months, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary.”
Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is very easy for some to do and quite difficult for others. Some see this as a natural way to have their prayers directed to God. What better way, they think, than to ask the Mother of Jesus to intercede for them? Others wonder why we would use a “middle man” when we could go directly to the Lord?
No matter what our prayer preference may be, we cannot deny the fact that Mary is the Mother of Jesus and that she has a unique role in the life of the Church.
On this First Saturday of August, let us ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to intercede for us. May she be with us and may she help us to say “yes” to her Son.
FAITH ACTION: Ask Mary to help you say “yes” to God’s will today.
