Eternal Life Awaits Us

3 Jun

[Jesus said to them] “As for the dead being raised,
have you not read in the Book of Moses,
in the passage about the bush, how God told him,
I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob?
He is not God of the dead but of the living.”  (Mk 12:26-27a)

There are many people who treat death as if it is the ultimate insult to life.  They view death as a final act that happens to us here on earth and, after death, that leads to nothing.  How very sad.  And, how very wrong.

There is a God.  He has been present for all ages and will continue throughout eternity.  At the end of our days, He calls us to Himself.

That was why Jesus could remind His people that God, through the prophets, spoke that He was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  God was the God of all our human ancestors.

God will continue to be the God of all our human descendants.

God simply is.  As God simply is, He invites us into Himself one day.  It is for that day for which we long and that day for which we prepare.  We do not rue those who have gone before us of the joy that awaited them.  Instead, we ask that we be prepared for the joy that awaits us.

FAITH ACTION:  Pray for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed, that they may know eternal life with our God.
