The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul;
The decree of the Lord is trustworthy,
giving wisdom to the simple. (Ps 19:8)
The law is very important.
Without it, our world would be in chaos and there could be no peace.
In the first reading today, we hear about God giving the Ten Commandments to His people.
The Ten Commandments — indeed, all of God’s laws — were given to us not to weigh us down but to free us up.
By embracing the commandments of God, we find ourselves free to pursue God’s holy will.
We are reminded that they lived their lives as faithfully as possible, teaching their daughter to embrace God’s law and, therefore, God’s will.
If we wish to be free, we must cast aside our own ways and embrace the ways, the laws, the commands of God.
FAITH ACTION: What part of God’s law is difficult for you to accept or accomplish? Ask God to give you the grace that you need to embrace His law more fully this day.
