Only in God be at rest, my soul,
for from him comes my hope.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed. (Ps 62:6-7)
We look for many assurances throughout our lives.
We want to know that we are going to be cared for, that we are going to be safe.
That gives us a deep, abiding peace.
The psalmist reminds us that only in God can our souls truly be at rest.
Everything that the world has to offer comes to nothing compared to what God can do for us.
That sounds like a rather dramatic statement since the world seems to be able to promise many things. However, we must remember that the world is transitory. Whatever it promises, no matter how long it may be able to deliver, it ends one day.
God, on the other hand, does not end. Nor do His many gifts. Nor does His strength. Nor does the salvation handed to us.
From Him alone, indeed, comes all of our hope!
FAITH ACTION: Find a time in your day where you have at least a half hour to spend in silence. At that time, let your soul rest in God’s abiding love.
