Thus says the Lord God:
Lo, I am sending my messenger
to prepare the way before me;
And suddenly there will come to the temple
the LORD whom you seek,
And the messenger of the covenant whom you desire. (Mal 3:1)
One thing seems for certain: we spend our lives waiting for messages.
When we are young, we wait for that potential girlfriend or boyfriend to call and leave a message. We are devastated when we find out that person did not call.
When we get older, we begin to wait for messages from prospective schools, potential employers, and the like.
Our day will shine or crash and burn based upon the message that may be left for us.
If we admit it, we also spend a great amount of our lives waiting for messages from the Lord.
Those messages come to us in experiences we have with others, in words we receive from others, in silent meditation with the Lord.
If we wait and if our hearts are pure, we will hear the message that God has for us.
If, however, our souls are cluttered, if our ears are attuned to the noises of this world, we may miss His message.
Just how will it come? Who will be the messenger? What might the message be?
Wait for it. The Lord will send a messenger. If we are ready, we will hear His word.
FAITH ACTION: Many of the Lord’s messages are sent in silent meditation. Many people miss those messages because they do not take the time to be silent before the Lord. Today, create some time so that you may sit and listen to the Lord.
