Hear me, O coastlands,
listen, O distant peoples.
The Lord called me from birth,
from my mother’s womb he gave me my name. (Is 49:1)
Jim Croce wrote a song called “I Got a Name”. In it, he sang proudly, “Moving ahead so life won’t pass me by.”
That’s pretty much the way it is with life.
We need to move on so it doesn’t pass us by.
And, if we move the way we should, we become a part of that great movement and not only contribute to it, but, enhance it.
Today, we celebrate the Nativity of John the Baptist.
His birth was heralded by an angel.
He was given a name.
He was handed a mission.
He moved ahead so that life wouldn’t pass him by.
In his ministry, he prepared his world for the coming of the Messiah.
As He did with John the Baptist, God fashioned us, breathed His life into us, and commissioned us.
Let us move on today as well, contributing to our world, enhancing our world, changing our world!
FAITH ACTION: How can we proclaim the Good News of God this day?
