“Stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone.” ~ Andy Biersack
There is a part of our human nature that wants to be the best. We want to be more powerful than others. We want to be more noticed. We want to have the highest accolades heaped upon us.
One thing we absolutely do not want is to stand alone. We shudder at the thought that there might not be anyone else around us, anyone else who agrees with us, or anyone else who supports us. That is why we do our best to be the best while, at the same time, being a part of the pack.
It’s hard to do.
If we are going to stand up for the faith, there will be times, many times, when we stand alone. That is because the world is diametrically opposed to the faith. The world, steeped in sin, has developed its own values and encourages others to adopt them. If we embrace the values of Christ we become counter-cultural. Being counter-cultural we often find ourselves very much alone sometimes even among family or friends.
Jesus was aware of the fact that He would bring division among people. He knew that households would be divided one against another because of Him. He knew that and He encouraged His followers to hold firm to the truth.
Don’t be afraid to stand up for the faith even if it sets you apart from everyone else. By living your life with integrity, you may just be the beacon of hope that brings someone back to God.
FAITH ACTION: Ask God for the courage needed to stand up for the faith.
