Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death
and brought life to light through the Gospel. (2 Tm 1:10)
If we look at our world, we could easily fall into despair. It is, after all, in sad shape. Violence against others abounds. People are killed each day for no apparent reason. Tragic events in nature — hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, superstorms — seem to take place on a regular basis. (Just today, the people in the northeast are hunkering down for what they say could be the worst recorded winter storm in history.)
There are so many times in our lives that we become despondent. We feel as if there is no way out for us, no chance, no hope. Sadly, that feeling of hopelessness is a part of our weak human nature.
Thankfully, feelings are not always reality.
There is hope for us, there is a chance, there is a way out. That hope comes to us in Christ Jesus, our Lord, who, by the virtue of His death and resurrection, destroyed death and restored eternal life. He did not win that victory solely for Himself. No. He won it for each and every one of us.
Two bishops, Timothy and Titus, who received the epistles from St. Paul, were entrusted with that message. From the days of the early Church, they, and those who came after them, continually reminded the people about hope restored in Jesus. That message, centuries old, is just as important and valuable today.
You can depend upon that Good News. Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel.
FAITH ACTION: Pray for those whose faith is weak or wavering, that they may recognize the Lord who is truly present in their daily lives.
