The Lord God said:
“It is not good for the man to be alone.
I will make a suitable partner for him.” (Gn 2:18)
God is a wonderful provider. He loves us so much. Created in His image and likeness, God wanted to make sure that we were incredibly happy.
In the creation story, as God looked down upon the man that he had made, He wanted to make sure the man never felt alone. God created woman to compliment man and fulfill him.
This account of the creation of man and woman is often picked by couples to be used at their wedding liturgies. It is very appropriate since they are saying, in effect, that God had created them for each other and they acknowledge that in the sacrament of matrimony.
God does not want any of us to be alone. He intends partners for many of us. Some of us, though, are called to remain single in our lives. Does that mean that God wants us to be alone? No. God has created people to place in the lives of others. Spouse or not, we all have significant people in our lives.
They may not be many. They may only be one or two. Yet those people give us a sense of wholeness. They are people that we can turn to in our need and rejoice with in our triumph. They are people who will stand with us in our struggles and deepest, darkness moments. They are people who are utterly faithful, just as God is faithful to us.
We thank God for those very significant people in our lives.
FAITH ACTION: In silent prayer, bring to mind all the people in your lives who have great importance to you. Thank God for each of them and ask God to bless each of them richly today.
