God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life. (Jn 3:16)
What a statement!
John 3:16 is quoted so often because it is one of the most power-packed statements in scripture.
God so loved us that He gave us everything: His only Son.
Why?
So that, if we believe in Him, we might not perish but, rather, have eternal life.
WOW.
As we have been celebrating the resurrection of the Lord throughout this Easter season, we cannot help but think about the great love of God. A love so deep, so rich, so all-encompassing that He would give His all — for us.
That is the real kicker, as far as I am concerned: for us!
We are sinners, each and every one of us.
Born in sin, we “specialize” in wallowing in sin so much of our lives.
But God loves us so much that He looks past our sins and sees what we do not see: the divine image that is within each and every one of us.
This world would be incredibly different if we would recognize the divine within each of us rather than focus on externals.
FAITH ACTION: God loves you and believes in you. How are you going to show God that you love Him and believe in Him today?
