Then Peter said,
“Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?” (Lk 12:41)
Yoy.
Can you believe Peter?
Jesus just finished telling a powerful story but, because it will involve much work and much change, Peter wants to know if it applies to the apostles as well.
I could just see if that happened today. Jesus would look at Peter and you would hear a buzzer go off as Jesus says, “Wrong answer!”
Of course it applied to Peter.
It applies to us today as well.
That is something that I always consider. I often wonder what my life would have been like had I not been raised in the faith, had I not accepted what I believed to be a call to priesthood.
It would be so nice not to have the “stuff” of our faith required of us, wouldn’t it?
Are there not times in our lives when we say, “If only…”
If only we were not held to a higher standard.
If only we did not have to love everyone, including our enemies.
If only we did not have to forgive.
If only…
Ah, yes. If only.
However, if everybody lived that way, can you imagine what kind of a world this would be? We complain about the world as it is. Imagine what it would be like if no one cared any longer.
Thank God that He cares for us!
FAITH ACTION: “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” Is much being required of you? Instead of groaning about it, perform those expectations willingly and cheerfully today.
