“One small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.” ~ Dalai Lama
Maxi size. Super size. Jumbo size. It seems that we are consumed with the thought that big is always best. The only thing that can be better than best is if it can be made even larger. Look at some of the mega skyscrapers that have been erected over the past few years. Each is taller, considerably taller, than the ones before it.
But, bigger is not always better. When we consume ourselves with the idea of “more”, we lose sight of the the impact of the small. The Dalai Lama, from whom today’s quote comes, also talked about the small. He said “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.” The little pest keeps most every person awake with its buzzing and nipping.
When we confront our day, we often focus on the big picture. Sometimes, the big picture amazes us, confounds us, or overwhelms us. It does not have to be so. All we need to do is focus on one small positive thing. The small positive thing can then take root in our day and, before you know it, we are accomplishing the large and mighty.
If you think about it, that is exactly what God did. Sin had so permeated the world that His people became separated from Him. He saw the enormity of it all; yet, He intervened with one small positive thought: a baby. The all-powerful God set aside all of His glory, all of His immensity, and became a tiny, fragile baby. That tiny thought conquered the immensity of sin and death.
FAITH ACTION: Does today look too large for you to handle? Look for the tiny. Focus on it. And then go out and conquer your day.
