The people of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem said,
“Come, let us contrive a plot against Jeremiah.
It will not mean the loss of instruction from the priests,
nor of counsel from the wise, nor of messages from the prophets.
And so, let us destroy him by his own tongue;
let us carefully note his every word.” (Jer 18:18)
Being a prophet, a witness to the Lord, is not all fun and games.
On the contrary, it is often fraught with peril.
I’m talking real peril.
Unadulterated danger.
The prophets of old knew that.
Many of them experienced it when their lives were taken from them.
But, you know what?
Peril did not keep them from their mission of proclaiming the message entrusted to them by God.
Being a witness in today’s world is no piece of cake, either.
There are many people who would stop us any chance they get.
Some witnesses, some modern day prophets, lose their lives even today.
We should not let danger, ridicule, or opposition of any kind keep us from the task appointed to us by God.
FAITH ACTION: Even though people may turn against us, let us renew our promise to live as witnesses of the Lord today.
