“No kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave.” ~ James Burgh
With all the recent school shootings, there has been a lot of chatter about what we should do and, even, who should be armed in order to protect our young people. A recent suggestion was even made that teachers be armed. That would send a strong message to bad people, it was said.
One can argue the merits of who should be armed and who should not be armed until the cows come home. There is one thing that I am certain of, though. Every one of us should be armed. Armed, that is, with the armament of Christ.
Our arsenal should be filled with love, prayer, devotion, mercy, forgiveness, understanding, kindness, fortitude, and the like. None of us should step into the world without being armed. That is because we are in a battle with the devil and he has all the arms at his disposal that can wreak havoc on us. The biggest weapon in his arsenal, of course, is temptation.
None of us have to succumb to temptation. None of us have to give up. None of us have to live in fear. All of us have what is necessary to fight temptation at our disposal. All we need to do is ask the Lord for it.
Jesus arms us precisely because we are free. We are no longer slaves to sin, darkness, and death. Jesus gives us what we need to make sure that we never become enslaved again. Accept His help and live courageously and without fear.
FAITH ACTION: Make sure that your armament as a Christian is complete. If you are lacking anything, make a plan to gain what you need. All you have to do is ask.
