[Jesus] said,
“To what shall we compare the kingdom of God,
or what parable can we use for it?
It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground,
is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth.
But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants
and puts forth large branches,
so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” (Mk 4:30-32)
Today’s Gospel has an image of faith as a mustard seed. Something very small — and relatively unexplainable — effects great change.
The mustard seed, once planted, grows to such immense proportions that it provides shade and shelter.
Just a little bit of faith can effect great change in our lives as well.
Yet, so many people walk around with no faith. They have given up, a long time ago, trusting in God and have placed all their trust in themselves.
It cannot be like that with us.
If our lives are to make any sense at all, we need to hold on to our faith and let God effect the changes in our lives that He desires.
FAITH ACTION: In prayer, tell God what you would like to accomplish today. Then, ask Him if that is what He wants you to accomplish. Be open to His prompting this day.
