An Ocean Full Of All Good Things

5 Apr

“The Divine Heart is an ocean full of all good things, wherein poor souls can cast all their needs; it is an ocean full of joy to drown all our sorrows, an ocean of humility to drown our folly, an ocean of mercy to those in distress, an ocean of love in which to submerge our poverty.”  ~ St. Margaret Mary

Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love cruising.  I will never forget my initial foray into cruising.  It was on the Crown Princess to Alaska in 1995.  When our ship left port and entered the seas, I was dumbfounded.  Up until that time, I had no real concept of just how large a body of water the ocean could be.  That was made even more apparent a few years later on my first transatlantic cruise.

Up until that time, I was used to the Great Lakes.  Being a person who was born and raised very close to the southern tip of Lake Michigan, my encounters with water were on smaller boats for the purpose of fishing.  I never really left the sight of land, though.  It may have been far away, but it was always visible.  Cruising the oceans is entirely different.

I’ve shared with friends before that my love for transatlantic cruises is because of the six, seven, or eight days of sailing with no ports.  In the middle of the ocean, you can see all around you and not see land nor any other vessel.  It’s just you and the ship and water, water, water.  It makes me realize how small and insignificant I am.  And yet, God loves me.

Imagine the size of the ocean and multiply that size and depth by infinity.  That will begin to give you an understanding of all the good things that God has for us.  We can count on God for anything and everything.  Our Lenten journey should have reinforced that for ourselves.  God has been present to us as we have struggled with our many resolutions.  That struggle is about to pay off as we begin the Triduum tomorrow.

Let the ocean of God’s blessings pour over you.  At the same time, rejoice in God’s abundant love for you.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God for the humility to keep yourself open to all the graces He has in store for you during the reminder of the week.
