Our True Focus

“If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed.  If you look within, you’ll be depressed.  But if you look at Christ, you will be at rest.”  ~ Corrie ten Boom

You cannot get more succinct than today’s quote.  There are people who always look to the world for many things.  They look to the world for reward.  They look to the world for meaning.  They look to the world for example.  However, the world, steeped in sin, cannot provide what is truly needed.  Even if a person thinks that the world is providing truth and clarity, it is a distorted version of truth and clarity that is filtered through the lens of sin.

There are others who spend an inordinate amount of their lives looking within.  Don’t get me wrong.  There is a certain amount of introspection that we all need to do in order to grow.  However, a constant looking within will easily lead a person to depression as all we would see would be our frailties, our faults, and our failures.

Where, then, do we go to find what we need?  Where can we find our direction?  From whom can we find hope?  The answer is simple:  in Christ.  He truly is the way, the truth, and the life.  He is all that we need and He can provide all that we need in order to navigate the pitfalls and traps of the world.

Have no doubt about it, the world is not our ally.  The world is not our destination.  The world is a place filled with confusion that can lure us off the path that leads to the Kingdom.  But we can walk confidently in the world if we look through the eyes of Jesus and keep our eyes firmly fixed on Him.

FAITH ACTION:  As you look at all things external and internal today, make sure that you view them through the lens of Christ.
