You Just Have To Care

10 Jan

“To make a difference in someone’s life you don’t have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful, or perfect.  You just have to care.”  ~ Mandy Hale

Before I can do anything, I have to be (fill in the blank).  How many times have we said that to ourselves.  We often prevented ourselves from reaching out to others because we didn’t think we had the “stuff” to do what needed to be done.  We thought we would need more training, more information, more resources.  All the time, everything that we needed was deep within.  We just needed to care.

When we care about someone, we do things that we never imagined we could or would do.  We say things that we never thought to say.  We operated out of the care and concern we had for another rather than allowed ourselves to be boxed in by all the safeguards we usually place in our lives.  We just needed to care.

Hale reminds us of that very important fact today.  We just have to care.  We have to care about the plight of others.  We have to care about their needs.  In order to best do so, however, we have someone else to care about first.  Ourselves.  Yes, we have to care about ourselves.  We can only truly love when we are secure in the love that we have for ourselves.

Care for yourself today.  Do what you need to do to bolster your own self-esteem.  Take the time to rest.  Take time to engage the Lord in conversation.  Let that communication with God, that prayer, enrich you.

You don’t have to be anything other than the person that God has made.  Whenever God finished any of His creation, He always followed it with “It is good”.  He said that when He created you as well.  Revel in that thought today.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to help you remove the shackles you place on yourself that inhibit you from truly caring for others as well as yourself.
