Among men, who knows what pertains to the man
except his spirit that is within? (1 Cor 2:11a)
No one really knows us, do they?
After all, we spend an inordinate amount of our time on earth keeping things hidden.
From the time we are very young, we are schooled in the art of concealment. We are told not to show our feelings, lest we get used by others. We are told to hide our weakness so that we are not taken advantage of. The list could go on and on.
Because of that, we often become expert at hiding things about ourselves even from our own self. That is why so many psychiatrists and psychologists never have to worry about running out of patients.
In the confused labyrinth of our emotions, then, we often lose ourselves. We are afraid that no one will ever be able to understand us since we do not seem to be able to express ourselves as honestly or completely as we ought.
Ah. Therein lies the beauty of God.
He understands us completely.
God has given us the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us. That Holy Spirit, who dwells inside each and every one of us knows us completely, inside and out. He understands us, He scrutinizes all of our ways. He knows how we feel. He knows when we are frightened. He knows when we are lost. He knows what we want to say and, because of that, He expresses our innermost thoughts and feelings for us.
So many people are afraid to “let go”. They are afraid “of what God may see.”
Are you kidding?
He sees us already. He loves us completely. He will never leave us.
FAITH ACTION: Take a period of time today to spend with the Lord. Speak to Him, sing songs of praise, or just sit silently and let Him speak for you since He knows the depths of your heart.
