What A Loving God

28 Jul

Even when you were dead
in transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
he brought you to life along with him,
having forgiven us all our transgressions.  (Col 2:13)

God is most certainly a loving God.

Even though sin has entered the world due to His people turning their backs on Him, God loves us so much that He does everything He can to bring us home to Him — including giving His Son to us.

The readings sound kind of dire.

The first reading reminds us of the ultimate doom that awaited Sodom and Gomorrah.  We know that, even though Abraham made a bargain with the Lord, there were not even ten faithful people in that city.

Paul’s letter to the people of Colossia also reminds us of our own mortality.  However, even though we lived in the death of sin, Jesus gave us new life through baptism.

Why does God do this?

Again, out of love.

“How much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” we hear in the Gospel.

We are sinners, yes.

But we do have to let our sin control us.

Rather, we could ask the Lord for forgiveness and for a heaping help of the Holy Spirit.

He will not disappoint.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask the Holy Spirit to come into your life in a deeper way this day.
