The word of God is living and effective,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
penetrating even between soul and spirit,
joints and marrow,
and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.
No creature is concealed from him,
but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him
to whom we must render an account. (Heb 4:12-13)
There is something common to most people: we fool ourselves into thinking that there will be no accountability for our words and deeds. Some people actually do all that they can in life to achieve positions of authority where they truly believe that they are “untouchable” since they are the ones with the final say in matters.
You know something? That is absolutely false. We will all be held accountable. Even more, we will have to make that accounting face-to-face before God.
If that is the case, some would ask, “Do we have any clues on how we shall be judged?” Absolutely. The word of God.
The word of God has been given to us for a reason. It is more than just fill for books. It is fill for souls. We need to chew on the word, to ruminate upon its meaning, and to allow it to guide us in our daily lives.
If we have been exposed to the word of God and decide to ignore it, we are already judged as guilty. We must use the word, take it to heart, and live it every day.
Nothing will be concealed from God. No one will be able to hide from Him. Everything that we have said or left unsaid, everything that we have done or left undone will be exposed before God.
How do you think you will fare under that gaze?
FAITH ACTION: As you reflect today, make an account of your past several weeks. Have they generally been positive or have you fallen off the path? Determine what you must do to keep faithful to the Lord and, if necessary, resolve to go to confession for any misdeeds.
