We Are Not The Boss

14 Feb

“My relationship with my body has changed. I used to consider it as a servant who should obey, function, give pleasure. In sickness, you realize that you are not the boss. It is the other way around.”  ~ Federico Fellini

The relationship with my body took a drastic turn two weeks ago.  That was when I stumbled outside the office back door and fell on some curbing, fracturing my kneecap in two places.

When we are well and intact, we think that we are in charge.  We think that we have the world in the grasp of our hands.  We think that nothing can topple us.  And then.  When we become sick or somehow hurt ourselves, we realize that there is very little that we control.

I think that laid low once in a while is probably a good thing for us.  It reminds us that we are not in charge.  God is the one who is in charge of everything in the world, including ourselves.  Sickness or injury can give us not only the awareness of our place in the world; but, it also gives us something very special: extra time to have some heart-to-heart discussions with God.

Too often, we distance ourselves from God.  In our lives, we become too busy, and maintain that hurried routine, to keep up a relationship with God.  Being brought low gives us that time to reconnect.

Do not wait to be laid low to check your relationship with God.  Do all that you can to maintain your relationship with Him.

FAITH ACTION:  Do not let the lack of being in charge shake your faith.  Instead, ask God for the patience to accept the many things that you cannot control.
