The greatest among you must be your servant.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled;
but whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Mt 23:11-12)
It is human nature to try to position ourselves to be in control of situations. The more that we have control in our lives, the better and more secure we feel.
That is why people often feel that they are the greatest if they have the most control over people and situations.
Jesus never regarded importance in terms of control.
Jesus regarded importance in terms of service.
If someone truly wants to be considered great, that person must be a servant to many. If someone wants to be “greatest”, that person must be a servant to all.
If we go out of our way to help other people, the Lord will surely notice and reward us.
If, however, we go out of our way to serve our own needs, that, too, will get noticed but certainly will not be rewarded.
It is time to remember that service is what matters.
Go out there and be great today!
FAITH ACTION: Do something good for another person today without any regard for reward. Additionally, praise someone for the good work that they accomplish.
