Three Persons, One God

22 May

When I behold your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars which you set in place —
What is man that you should be mindful of him,
or the son of man that you should care for him?  (Ps 8:4-5)

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity.  One God, three distinct persons:  God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  This is a concept that is extremely difficult for most Christians to comprehend.

We are finite individuals.  Our mental capacities are limited.  We cannot hope to understand the depths of God.

The good news is that we do not have to understand.  All we have to do is embrace.

We have come to understand the persons of God in terms of their roles.  God the Father:  Creator.  God the Son:  Redeemer.  God the Holy Spirit:  Sanctifier.

May God who created us in His image and likeness, who died for us and rose from the dead to set us free from sin and death, and who makes us holy day by day, bring us, one day, to eternal life!

FAITH ACTION:  Prayer the following prayer to the Holy Trinity:

Glory be to the Father,
Who by His almighty power and love created me,
making me in the image and likeness of God.

Glory be to the Son,
Who by His Precious Blood delivered me from hell,
and opened for me the gates of heaven.

Glory be to the Holy Spirit,
Who has sanctified me in the sacrament of Baptism,
and continues to sanctify me
by the graces I receive daily from His bounty.

Glory be to the Three adorable Persons of the Holy Trinity,
now and forever.

Amen.
