While they were all amazed at his every deed,
Jesus said to his disciples,
“Pay attention to what I am telling you.
The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”
But they did not understand this saying;
its meaning was hidden from them
so that they should not understand it,
and they were afraid to ask him about this saying. (Lk 9:43b-45)
Time and time again it has been proven that people who are afraid to ask questions are bound to get into trouble. They are lucky if the “trouble” is merely a misunderstanding of some sort. Others might not be so lucky and their “trouble” might be serious injury or, even, death.
“They were afraid to ask him.”
Our spiritual lives are supposed to be a constant dialogue with God. It is a dialogue, not a monologue. We do not — or should not — merely speak to the Lord daily. We should converse with the Lord, speaking to Him, asking Him questions, and listening to Him as well.
If we do not ask, if we are too frightened to ask, we could get into trouble spiritually.
None of us wants to end up on the wrong side of the Lord (and the wrong side of eternal life).
So, do not be afraid.
Feeling uncertain about something? Ask the Lord for clarification.
Need an answer? Ask the Lord to speak to your heart.
Do not be afraid of the Lord. Get to know Him on such a personal basis that not only will you not fear Him but you will also be able to commend others to Him as well.
FAITH ACTION: Has there been something burning in your heart that you have been afraid to ask the Lord about? Ask Him today.
