Jesus said to his disciples:
“Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer
and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,
would be preached in his name
to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.” (Lk 24:46-48)
Today is the Feast of the Ascension. It is also Mother’s Day.
To me, the two really do go hand in hand.
After all, on the Feast of the Ascension, we remember that Jesus, right before He ascended to the Father, instructed His followers that His job was now their job.
They were to go out to all the world and proclaim the Good News.
Jesus was going to go home to prepare a place for us.
Mothers are truly called to preach the Good News. The first teachers of the faith are a child’s parents.
Mothers also prepare places for us. From the time we are first born, mothers are there taking care of us.
They teach us by word and example, preparing us to take our place in this world.
Jesus has commissioned us to proclaim the Good News. Fortified by the example of our mothers, let us do just that this day.
FAITH ACTION: Do something special for your mother today. If she has already been called to the Lord, ask God to reward her. Pray for all mothers, living and deceased.
We thank you, Creator of us all, for our mothers.
We thank you that they gave us life and nurtured us all these years. They gave us our faith, helping us to know you and to know Jesus and His ways. They taught us how to love and how to sacrifice for others.
Bless them with the graces they need today. Help them to feel precious in your eyes today and to know that we love them.
Give them strength and courage, compassion and peace.
Bless them this day with your love.
