I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you,
that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over,
took bread, and, after he had given thanks,
broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,
you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. (1 Cor 11:23-26)
Today, children from our parish school will received their First Communion.
As they come to the table of the Lord, they will be reminded of the great gift that Jesus gives to us in the Eucharist: He gives us His very own Body and Blood so that we may be nourished on the way to His Kingdom.
Jesus told us that His flesh was real food and His blood was real drink and that whoever ate His flesh and drank His blood would have life eternal.
The opportunity to enter eternal life was opened to us when Jesus rose on Easter morn.
We praise God for the gift of His Son and ask God to continue to guide us on our way home!
FAITH ACTION: Pray for our First Communicants, that they may return to the Table of the Lord often throughout their lives.
