“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” ~Abraham Lincoln
Today is America’s birthday. It is a big deal. After all, a relatively short time ago, our forefathers banded together to declare their independence and to assert that they had the right to govern themselves.
Since the beginning of that “experiment” in democracy, much has happened. We have found ourselves struggling, as war both internally as well as with other nations, in depression and poverty, and succeeding where other nations have not, such as going to the moon.
It has taken a lot of work to get where we are today and, as one of our great presidents has noted, we will not be destroyed from the outside. We can only be destroyed from within.
That same truth that Abraham Lincoln spoke can apply to our faith as well. Nothing can destroy us from the outside. If we remain faithful to God, He will always give us exactly what we need in order to remain firm. However, if we give up on our faith in God, we lose all hope.
They say hope springs eternal. Make sure that you ask God for all that you need to remain faithful. Set an example in the faith for others to see. In doing so, you will be introducing someone else to the Lord and also strengthening your own faith.
FAITH ACTION: Pray for our country and its leaders, that we may work for the freedom and safety of all people.
