And now, children, remain in him,
so that when he appears we may have confidence
and not be put to shame by him at his coming. (1 Jn 2:28)
Tired of your resolutions yet?
The cartoon above pretty much sums up how quickly New Year’s resolutions come and go.
But, the text above, from the First Letter of John, reminds us that we must hold firm to our spiritual resolve so that, when the Lord appears, we may not be ashamed.
If you have not prepared a spiritual resolution for yourself yet this new year, consider doing so today.
There is research out there that indicates that it takes twenty-one days to develop a new habit.
If you resolve — and stick to — reading from your Bible daily, by the end of January it will feel natural to do so because you will have formed the habit of reading from the Bible. If you resolve to pray more daily, to do a work of mercy daily, to say a kind word to someone daily, by the end of the month it will be a part of your life.
Is the Lord worth a bit of work on our part?
I would hope your answer is yes.
FAITH ACTION: If you have not made a spiritual resolution yet, do so today. If you have made one, do not forget to do it today.
