Receive the word of God, not as the word of men,
but as it truly is, the word of God. (1 Thes 2:13)
We are rather mistrusting people. In truth, many of us were raised that way. We were told to “look at the fine print”. We were told not to take things at face value but to look deeper. Perhaps that is because we realize that our human nature is tainted and flawed. We think, “We do not trust ourselves so why should we trust others?”
As it goes on earth, so it often gets applied to God. Since we do not easily trust others, we often do not trust the Lord. We do not take things to Him. We do not ask for His help. Instead, we try to do things on our own.
Left to our own devices, we will fail. It is only in the Lord that we will be able truly to live. Hannah realized that in today’s first reading. She was childless and poured her misery out to the Lord. In doing so, she and her husband were finally able to conceive and she gave birth to Samuel.
We spend a great deal of time trying to accomplish things or hoping that things come about. But do we spend just as much time with the Lord?
FAITH ACTION: Spend some time today reading Sacred Scripture. It might be a favorite Old Testament or New Testament passage or it might be something random. Let the words speak to you.
