“Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” (Mt 26:21b)
I cannot think of more bone-chilling words to hear from Jesus than the ones above: “One of you will betray me.” How awful to consider that anyone would betray the Lord. Even more awful to think that we might be the one who betrays Him.
Yet, that is the danger we place ourselves in each and every time we entertain sin.
One of the definitions of “betray” is to hurt someone who trusts us, such as a friend or relative, by not giving help or by doing something morally wrong.
Jesus is our friend. Jesus trusts us. Jesus asks us to give ourselves completely to Him. Can you imagine the depths of betrayal He must feel on a daily basis given all the people in the world who wantonly sin? It must be horrendous.
The fact that Jesus loves us still is phenomenal.
He asks us to draw closer to Him today.
What will be our answer?
FAITH ACTION: Do not betray the Lord today. Rather, stand by Him by being faithful in all that you say and do.
