“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?” ~ Bob Hope
Love. That is one of the words that is closely associated with Christmas. Love. It is a great gift from God. Because of it, God gave us His only-begotten Son so that we might be able to find our way back to Him.
Love is something that every person looks for in his or her life. Love is something that nourishes us. It sustains us. It builds us up. It shapes us into who we become.
Love is something that can set us free. It enables us to do more than we ever would have thought possible.
Love is something that should never come with a price tag. It should never be bought. It should never be sold. It should be freely given and just as freely received.
Love is not for a day. It is forever.
As we continue our celebration of Christmas during this very special Christmas Octave, let us remember that the love given to us by God has been given so that we may share it with others. Bob Hope hit the nail on the head when he said that his idea of Christmas “is very simple: loving others.”
Are there people in our lives whom we refuse to love? Do we make anyone “prove” that they should be loved? Do we use love as a bargaining chip or as a weapon? Love has been freely given to us. We are called to give just as freely. To all.
